Abstract
The Work has been on research and description of the main characteristics of fire doors. The purpose of this research is to investigate and analyze the main features that offer a complete door system in a building fire. Specifically, it investigates the technical characteristics of fire doors and their contribution to fire phenomena.
This thesis is divided into four parts. The first part is introductory part describes the legislation prevailing in Cyprus to protect buildings, specifically indicate the specific provisions that define the functionality of the doors.
The second part presents the general study of the technical characteristics of a fire door and becomes breakdown of all the equipment that makes up.
In the third part refers to the structural design of a fire door and is a division of the various fire doors. It analyzes the characteristics that shape the degree of fire resistance.
Finally, the fourth part describes the procedure for laboratory testing of fire doors in accordance with the Annex to British code for determining the resistance of vertical components at pressures fire.
The research helped to draw conclusions on the operational safety offered by fire doors in buildings.
