Abstract
A presentation of the study titled Laser Acrobatics | A Picture Book of Cutting, Engraving, and Making, which showcases experimental methods performed on a CO2 laser cutter from the perspective of the maker. The study is rooted in experiential learning through trial and error, testing material limits, and using the laser in “unorthodox” ways. Leading towards the publication of a book, it serves as a record of possibilities emerging from common processes, as well as a guide to the “what nots” of laser cutters. The study aims to complement mainstream information found in online discussion groups, commercial laser websites, and books.
Divided into three realms, the study is intended for hobbyists and beginner makers as inspiration to further invest in their craft, for designers and artists as an exploration of the creative possibilities lasers offer, and for engineers and laser operators as a demonstration of unconventional processes.
