| dc.description | The object of the work is the study of the iconography of the Greek struggle of liberation of 1821, by Greek and philhellenic foreign painters in the 19th century, and its contribution to the formation of modern Greek identity and the image of Greeks in the eyes of the Europeans. The 18th and 19th centuries were a revolutionary period, during which significant changes took place at the social and political level. Decisive for the developments, but also a consequence of them, was the rise and the dominance of nationalism and the consequent transition to a new European political reality, that of the nation-states. | en_US |
