Biography
Antonis Danos has a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy (Southeast Missouri State University), a Post-graduate Diplora in the History of Art and Architecture (University of East Anglia), and a Master’s and a PhD in the History and Theory of Art, both from the University of Essex. Between 2002 and 2007, he worked in Cypriot higher education institutions, and from 2007, at Cyprus University of Technology, teaching and researching in History and Theory of Art. He is a member of the following academic bodies: Association of Art Historians (UK), Modern Greek Studies Association (USA), College Art Association (USA), AICA Hellas, Association for the Study of Ethnicity and Nationalism (UK), and Mediterranean Studies Association (USA). His research focuses on Nationalism and [Post]Colonialism, on the ideological and aesthetic constructions of collective identities, on Modern Greek and Contemporary Cypriot art, on the Mediterranean as a cultural 'space', on art criticism and historiography, as well as on aspects of gender and sexuality in art. He has published, in the areas of Modern Greek and Contemporary Cypriot art and culture in general, in academic journals, in edited volumes, a two-volume book, as well as texts in several monographs on Cypriot artists. He has designed and curated exhibitions on modern and contemporary Cypriot art, in Cyprus, Greece, the UK, and Turkey. With film director Yannis Yapanis, he produced the documentary Christoforos Savva, 1924-1968 (2011).
