dc.descriptionThis dissertation investigates facets of literary modernism in the Mediterranean. More specifically, the study’s aim is to illustrate that in the Mediterranean, there emerged a different, alternative manifestation of modernity which, to a large extent, developed independently from the corresponding values and norms of Western Europe. Within Mediterranean modernity, we can locate important, anti-hegemonic cases of Modernism. Through selected literary texts, the study investigates the Mediterranean as a place of cultural fluidity, hybridity, and of mixed identities, which transcends the binary categories of West/East, Christianity/Islam, colonizer/colonized, and the notions of separate “national” categories.en_US
dc.description.abstractΗ παρούσα διατριβή διερευνά όψεις του λογοτεχνικού μοντερνισμού στη Μεσόγειο. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, σκοπός της εργασίας είναι να αποδειχθεί ότι στη Μεσόγειο αναδύθηκε μια άλλη, εναλλακτική έκφανση της Νεωτερικότητας, η οποία διαμορφώθηκε σε μεγάλο βαθμό αποσυνδεδεμένα από τις αντίστοιχες αρχές και πρότυπα της Δυτικής Ευρώπης. Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο της μεσογειακής νεωτερικότητας εντοπίζονται σημαντικές, αντι-ηγεμονικές περιπτώσεις Μοντερνισμού. Μέσα από επιλεγμένα λογοτεχνικά κείμενα, διερευνάται η Μεσόγειος ως χώρος πολιτιστικής ρευστότητας, υβριδικότητας και μεικτών ταυτοτήτων, που υπερβαίνει τα δίπολα, Δύση/Ανατολή, Χριστιανισμός/Ισλάμ, αποικιοκράτης/αποικιοκρατούμενος καθώς και τις χωριστές «εθνικές» κατηγοριοποιήσεις.en_US
