Abstract
In the following research the ultimate bearing capacity of foundations on slopes is examined as defined by Meyerhof in 1957. Two cases are studied; foundations on the slope and foundations on the top of the slope. The aim of the study is the creation of new revised charts based on the bearing capacity factors (Ncq, Ngq) for purely cohesive and granular soils. The analysis method that was used was finite elements method and a software called Phase 2 used to solve geotechnical issues. The modeling and analysis of various slopes gave results which were exported in new graphs. Through various approaches the aim was to be found a suitable load that gives a safety factor (SF) equal to unit. The results showed that traditional analysis method of solving gives more conservative results instead of the finite element analysis. The charts are present the bearing capacity factor, Ncq for cohesive and granular soils and the next diagram τηε bearing capacity factor Nγq for cohesive soil only. The results dedicate increasing prices for bearing capacity in small angles of inclination of the slope but the price is reduced vertically on slopes greater than 45 degrees.Noteworthy is the fact that there are not enough references talking about ultimate bearing capacity on slopes and this phenomenon creates lots of querries, giving spaces to researchers to develop new theories on this theme. With the development of technology new analytical methods give more reliable results for implementing economic solutions.
