Abstract
Abstract: Nurses have difficulties in getting a clear position for or against euthanasia. This is mainly due to the complexity of the precise definition and understanding of the term euthanasia. Aim. To specify the attitudes and behaviours of nurses towards euthanasia and the factors affecting them. Method. Α critical review of the relevant bibliography is used. 14 studies have been used. Results The views of nurses in euthanasia differ significantly and are associated with religion, age and specialty of each nurse. Proponents of euthanasia argue that it promotes the quality of life, respect for autonomy and helps to avoid unpleasant pain for the patient. On the other hand nurses who are against euthanasia argue that every patient has the right to a good death, they have faith in the power with palliative care, and are influenced by their religious beliefs. Conclusion. There is a need to take into account the opinions of nurses in decisions concerning the end of life of patients because they provide an understanding of euthanasia and death decisions, which springs from real life experiences with people facing death.
