AIRWAYS-ICPs has strategic relevance to the European Union Health Strategy and will add value to existing public health knowledge by: 1) proposing a common framework of care pathways for chronic respiratory diseases, which will facilitate comparability and trans-national initiatives; 2) informing cost-effective policy development, strengthening in particular those on smoking and environmental exposure; 3) aiding risk stratification in chronic disease patients, using a common strategy; 4) having a significant impact on the health of citizens in the short term (reduction of morbidity, improvement of education in children and of work in adults) and in the long-term (healthy ageing); 5) proposing a common simulation tool to assist physicians; and 6) ultimately reducing the healthcare burden (emergency visits, avoidable hospitalisations, disability and costs) while improving quality of life. In the longer term, the incidence of disease may be reduced by innovative prevention strategies. AIRWAYSICPs was initiated by Area 5 of the Action Plan B3 of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing. All stakeholders are involved (health and social care, patients, and policy makers). | URI: | https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.14279/3598 | ISSN: | 13993003 | DOI: | 10.1183/09031936.00014614 | Rights: | © European Respiratory Society | Type: | Article | Affiliation : | Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Global Alliance Against Chronic Respiratory Diseases (GARD) University Hospital Montpellier Fighting Chronic Diseases for Healthy Ageing Mechanisms of the Development of Allergy European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing Fondation Partenariale Imperial College London Centro Medico Docente la Trinidad National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital University Hospital of Pisa Vilnius University University of Oslo Université Pierre et Marie Curie University Hospitals Leuven The University of Edinburgh Health Institute for Technology Transfer Societe de Pneumologie de Langue Francaise Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust University Clinic of Respiratory and Allergic Diseases University of Sao Paulo CNR - National Research Council of Italy IRCCS McMaster University Coimbra University Hospital University of Costa Rica Sociedad Latinoamericana de Allergia, Asma e Immunologia Serbian Alliance Against Chronic Respiratory Diseases University of Genoa University Marburg Federal University of Minas Gerais Service de pneumologie-CHUV University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Grigol Robakidze University IRCCS Glenfield Hospital University of Vienna University Hospital of Heraklion University of Rome National Centre Cardiology and Internal Medicine Peking and Center for Asthma Research and Education S.Maria Nuova Hospital Russian Respiratory Society National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Leiden University University of Plymouth Porto Age-Up Consortium European Academy of Paediatrics National Allergy Health Programme Sociétéfrançaise d'Allergologie Association for Asthma and COPD Woodbrook Medical Centre Fondation du Souffle Hull York Medical School Cumbria County Council Catholic University of Louvain Hallym University University of Valencia Neurophysiologie Respiratoire Expérimentale et Clinique Sociétéfrançaise d'Allergologie University of Bratislava Guangzhou Medical University European Federation of Allergy and Airways Diseases Patients Associations Ghent University Mainz University Hospital Ferrara University University of Nebraska University J.J.
