Such objects were heavily ornamented and typically gilded with gold leaf. The successful revival of the material and the production of recipe variations to include waste such as egg-shells, created strong indications towards the material’s sustainable qualities through minimising extractivistic techniques. The recipe typically includes some form of Calcium Carbonate, Rabbit Skin Glue, Animal Glue, Rosin and Linseed Oil, making it highly organic and biodegradable, yet suprisingly durable when set. The successful production of an “architect’s” desktop lamp, through kneading, turning and rolling - artisanal crafting techniques - confirmed that the material may also be used to create contemporary shapes. The fixings were made using waste cow bone and found raindeer antlers. Future experimentation involves testing various forms, colour and finishing techniques, as well as applications in Digital Fabrication through a custom designed 3d clay printer/extruder. | URI: | https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.14279/35554 | Type: | Exhibitions | Affiliation : | Cyprus University of Technology | Publication Type: | Peer Reviewed | Participation: | Exhibition |
