Abstract
The Bachelor Thesis at hand entitled The contribution of CH4 on the Greenhouse Effect aims to investigate the contribution of CH4 on global warming.
The first chapter entitled ‘Theoretical Background’, presents the physicochemical properties
of CH4, the methane’s cycle, the natural and anthropogenic sources of CH4 emissions, the
role of CH4 in the chemical reactions occur in the atmosphere and the impacts of CH4 on the
environment and on human’s health. Following this it refers on the European legislative
framework for the CH4 emissions in the atmosphere and ends with ways of managing the
CH4 reduction in the atmosphere.
The second chapter entitled ‘Literature Review’, describes how the Greenhouse Effect works
and the changes that occurred in the CH4 concentration according to models, as also CH4 life
time estimations during three time periods 1850-1992-2050. The chapter closes with a
summarily statement of the recent global mean temperature and it’s anomalies that occur over
time.
In the third chapter entitled ‘Conclusions and Future Research’, presents the conclusions
derived from the research and some suggestions for future research.
