Title: | Solar water heating in Cyprus: current status of technology and problems | Authors: | Kalogirou, Soteris A. | Major Field of Science: | Engineering and Technology | Field Category: | Environmental Engineering | Keywords: | Hot water production;Solar water | Issue Date: | Jan-1997 | Source: | Renewable Energy,1997, vol. 10, no. 1, pp. 107-112 | Volume: | 10 | Issue: | 1 | Start page: | 107 | End page: | 112 | Journal: | Renewable Energy | Abstract: | The Cyprus energy scene is first presented in this paper and it is shown that 6.5% of the annual energy demand is provided from solar energy. This energy is mainly used in the domestic sector (93.5%) for hot water production. The present status of the Cyprus solar water heating industry is then presented followed by analysis of the various possible problems faced during the life of a solar water heating system with respect to poor hot water quality (temperature) and quantity. The analysis is presented in the form of a cause and effect diagram. The main causes of problems are identified as arising from materials and production, design, installation, operation, transportation, environment and climate and maintenance. | URI: | https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.14279/1300 | ISSN: | 09601481 | DOI: | 10.1016/0960-1481(96)00019-5 | Rights: | © Elsevier | Type: | Article | Affiliation : | Higher Technical Institute Cyprus | Publication Type: | Peer Reviewed |
