Biography
I hold a PhD in Medical Sciences from the Department of Neurology, Faculty of Science and Medicine, University of Fribourg in Switzerland. I have qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist from the UK and have been practising in Neurological Rehabilitation for the past 20 years. I work as a Clinical Lecturer at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of the Cyprus University of Technology, where I manage the Adult Clinic.
In 2009, I took a personal initiative to establish the Cyprus Stroke Association, a Stroke Support Organization and I am currently the President of the Board. I also hold the position of the Secretary of the Stroke Alliance for Europe and I am an Inaugural WSO Future Stroke Leader Alumni.
I was involved, as a Researcher, in stroke-related EU-funded research programs like the ASPIRE, the i-Train project, and the ACESO. I am actively involved in research projects of the World Stroke Organization, on the needs of young people with stroke, and acute stroke rehabilitation in India and Africa, and have completed the development of the Dysphagia, Aphasia & Communication Checklist.
Special Interest
My passion is exploring Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in Aphasia Research. In close collaboration with people with aphasia, we develop and validate tools that measure quality of life after stroke and the impact of aphasia on everyday interactions.
