Biography
Dr Marios Tzouvaras is the Research Coordinator at ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence (ECoE) and a Researcher at ECoE and at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics of the Cyprus University of Technology. He holds an MEng from the National Technical University of Athens, an MSc in Transport with Distinction from the Imperial College London and University College London and a PhD in Natural Hazards monitoring through Earth Observation Techniques from the Cyprus University of Technology.

Following his significant consulting and construction experience that he gained working for over 6 years in the industry, developing transport models, transport assessment reports and risk assessment reports in the UK and abroad; and supervising the construction of critical infrastructure, such as the Queen Alia International airport in Amman, Jordan, Marios, since 2012, is a Research Associate at the Remote Sensing and Geo-environment Lab of the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics of CUT. During this period, he has worked in numerous EU funded research projects and he has also participated/led the writing and submission of over 30 research project proposals in various calls, such as Horizon Europe, Horizon 2020, JPI, PRIMA, ERASMUS+, MED, ESA-PECS, Cyprus Research, and Innovation Foundation, etc. Marios is a member of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK), a member of the Cyprus Association of Transport Planners and Engineers and a member of the EU Soil Observatory of the Joint Research Centre’s European Soil Data Centre (ESDAC).

His research interests are: SAR interferometry, Coherent Change Detection, Deformation monitoring, Natural Hazards monitoring, Remote Sensing, GIS for environmental surveillance / applications, Transport Planning (Design Issues, Transport Assessments, Transportation Forecasting, Trip Generation, Distribution, Modal Choice, Route Assignment, etc.), Microsimulation Transport Models. Marios has published over 20 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and has participated as a reviewer in 44 peer-reviews of journal papers submitted in Remote Sensing, Sensors, Applied Sciences, Sustainability and Water (MDPI); Energy Science and Engineering (Wiley); Geocarto International (Taylor & Francis); Natural Hazards (Springer); and Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences (EGU).

Last but not least, since 2014, Marios has worked as a Special Scientist at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics (CUT) lecturing for the module CIV329: Transport Planning (3rd year of the undergraduate course of Civil Engineering).
