Biography
Nicolas Ioannou is a Professor and Coordinator of the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology and Food Science. He has a BSc degree in agricultural sciences from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and an MSc and PhD in Plant Pathology/Mycology from the University of California, Davis, USA. He pursued postdoctorate studies in Plant Virology at U.C. Davis and Cornell University (USA), and the University of Bari (Italy) and Dundee (Scotland). He has supervised many undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral theses in collaboration with foreign universities and has been a Visiting Professor at the post-graduate programme of the International Centre of Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies in Chania, Crete. He worked for many years as a researcher at the Agricultural Research Institute of Cyprus, where he held the positions of Chief Research Officer and Head of the Plant Protection and Biotechnology Sections. His research interests include: bio-ecology and integrated management of soil-borne posthogens, IPM in greenhouse crops, diseases of vegetables and potato, virus diseases and production of healthy propagation material in grapevines, citrus etc.
