Vaia Doudaki is Assistant Professor of Journalism and Media Studies at the Department of Communication and Internet Studies, in Cyprus University of Technology, and director of the MA in European Journalism, offered by the same department. She holds a PhD from the Department of Communication, Media and Culture, of Panteion University (Athens, Greece), specializing in the sociology of news production (2004) and a first degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the same department (1996). Dr. Doudaki has worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Panteion University (2007-2009). She has taught at Panteion University (2005-2009) and at the National Centre of Public Administration and Local Government (Athens, Greece, 2007–2008). She has also worked for several years as a journalist for print and internet media (Athens, Greece, 2004-2009). Her research and publications focus on the study of media, conflict and crisis, on production of meaning in fictional and news content, on organization of news production in “mature” and “new” media, and on journalistic identities and journalistic practices in the internet era. Broadly speaking, her research interests and production lie at the intersection of journalism studies and cultural studies, and in particular in newsmaking and representations.
