Biography
Meropi Mpouzika holds the post of Assistant Professor in Emergency and Intensive Care Nursing at the Technological University of Cyprus (CUT) since 2014. Since then, she is Head of the track “Advanced Emergency & Intensive Care”, one of the 5 tracks of the 2-year Master of Science in Advanced Practice. Prior to that she was a tenured Assistant Professor at the Technological Educational Institution (TEI) of Athens, Department of Nursing, Greece. She holds a BSc in Nursing from the University of Athens School of Nursing (1997) as well as a Masters degree (MSc) (2001) and a PhD (2008) in Critical Care from the same University. Her clinical experience covers multiannual work (1998-2014) in various environments of healthcare from which most are in Intensive Care Units (ICU). Her main research interests revolve around nursing management of critically ill patients and especially the effects of stress and pain experienced while hospitalized in the ICU. She has a strong focus on biological research (including laboratory research) and studies how stress can contribute to the onset of multiple organ dysfunction and apoptosis in critical illness. Within this context, she studies the impact of the critical care environment on both patients and nurses. Her future research plans include the investigation of patients with chronic pain after ICU discharge, and the investigation of potential associations of pain and stress neuropeptides with nursing interventions. She has a record of publications in international and in Greek peer reviewed journals. She has presented a significant number of papers at international and national conferences.
