ACM Special issue on Recent Advances in Architectured Materials

Description of the Editorial Board
Architectured Materials are materials where the inner architecture of the material is designed such that material property charts are complemented. They are finding increased attention in various engineering applications due to their remarkable potential in combining tailored mechanical and physical properties with multi-functionality, thereby widening their applications. Recent advances in manufacturing technologies, in particular additive manufacturing, has opened new horizons in developing and prototyping such materials.

This Special Collection aims to collect recent studies and reviews on analytical modelling of the mechanical performance (including geometrically nonlinear buckling and postbuckling behaviour), numerical simulation, computational homogenization and (topology) optimization, development and (additive) manufacturing strategies as well as experimental investigations on Architectured Materials.

Potential topics include but are not limited to:

● Lattice structured materials (microtruss lattices, hybrid lattice structures, …)
● Cellular materials (open/closed cell foams, …),
● Meta-materials and pantographic structures,
● Hierarchically structured and biomimetic and bio-inspired materials,
● Graded materials,
● Topological interlocking materials
● Multifunctional materials.

Keywords: Please include approx. 6 keywords which reflect the key themes of the collection:

1. Architectured materials
2. Lattice materials
3. Buckling
4. Homogenization
5. Cellular materials
6. Optimization
