Περίληψη: This paper proposes a 3-level processing and communication architecture that can be used to enable patients with chronic diseases, requiring continues monitoring of their health, to enjoy the freedom of movement outside their home or medical center. The proposed architecture gets advantage of: (1) the increased widespread and power of mobile computing devices, such as mobile phones and PDAs, which allows for intelligent health status estimation methods to be implemented and run on them, (2) the development of biosensors capable of both collecting important biomedical data and communicating them wirelessly, through a Personal Area Network, to mobile computing devices, and (3) the existing GSM infrastructure which makes the communication of mobile computing devices and medical centers easy and secure. This communication involves sending to the medical center only the necessary information for successful monitoring as well as any indications of emergency incidents.
