dc.descriptionThe syndrome of sudden infant death is the sudden death of a healthy infant less than one year, whose cause of death cannot be determined by either medical history or by necropsy. More babies whose mothers smoke during pregnancy risk 2.3 times more than the Sudden Death Syndrome, than infants whose mothers did not smoke. This possibility is increased 3 fold in infants whose mothers continued to smoke after pregnancy. In infants who died from sudden death syndrome found increased concentrations of nicotine in their lungs and elevated levels of cotinine than infants who died of other causes. One of them is likely to be smoking during pregnancy.en_US
