dc.description100+ Posters of the Future “The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it, and execute it. It isn’t something you await, but rather create“. These inspiring words from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid provide a roadmap for the future. The future is not what we wait for, but what we design, for future generations. Victor Hugo said, “There is nothing like a dream to create the future“, and Peter Drucker mentioned that “The best way to predict the future is to create it“. The fourth edition of the Emirates International Poster Festival (IV-EIPF) draws inspiration from the UAE Centennial 2071. A future-oriented and human-centric plan that calls for investments in the future and improving quality of life for all. The UAE 2071 plan is a model for advancing innovative ideas and opening the door to future generations, academics, and researchers from around the world to provide new solutions and creating the tools to address future challenges. We believe it is important to call designers to be part of the future and to design artworks that inspire, imagining the possibility of new worlds, explore humanity in the present climate and demonstrate the power of the poster as a medium for social, cultural, and political change. “Be Part of the Future ... Design Now!“ emphasizes the role of design today. Aside from its explicit practical functions, design also serves implicit social functions: improving the quality of life. 100+ posters of EIPS pull back the curtain and see the future. Posters have always been an expressive tool to communicate/ promote thoughts, ideas and products through creative narrative that engage spectators and create a link with the viewer. The extensive collection of contemporary posters shares vivid dreams, thoughts, approaches, and ambitions to imagine the future. It is a review of current trends and direction in poster design, from illustration to typography, graphic design, and futuristic poster design. The designers’ work extends beyond generating attractive visuals to utilising the power of design methodology and strategy to transmit a clear, crisp message in engaging ways, as well as to reproducing cultural meanings through their work. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the Cultural and Scientific Association and to chairman of NADWA HE Bilal Al Bodour for his commitment towards the success of this event, and to the international committee, all participating designers and WGD, tDA Asia, AUE and CEIDA for their continued support. dc.description.abstractThe fourth edition of the Emirates International Poster Festival is, this year, held after the celebrations of the United Arab Emirates and its 50th anniversary of glorious life with extraordinary achievements. It is also dedicated on the beginning of the preparation for the next fifty years to complete its centenary with stability and certainty by adding more achievements in 2071, based on clear strategies, broad hopes and its vision of building creative and innovative generations. In this context, the Culture and Scientific Association is calling international designers to make contributions and to present their visions, inspired by the UAE’s experience and aspirations for a future that will exceed the limits. We extend our thanks and appreciation to all participants, and congratulate them on the work they have created. HE Bilal Al Bodour Chairman of NADWAen_US
