dc.descriptionThe social, political and economic developments all over the world have inevitably brought important changes in agriculture and food. The growing search for better food quality combined with the need to protect products in the form of intellectual property, formed the basis for European Union to created quality marks, part of which are the Protected Designation of Origin (P.D.O.) and the Protected Geographical Indication (P.G.I.). The goal of quality labels later acquired a multidimensional character while offering advantages in various fields. The aim of this dissertation is to study the importance of the advantages offered by the P.D.O. and P.G.I. markings on the five largest islands of the Mediterranean: Cyprus, Crete, Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica. In this study, the prevailing situation of the agriculture, livestock and food sector of the five islands is interpreted. In addition, the status of their patents so far is studied and specific cases of products of the islands bearing the P.D.O. / P.G.I. Through a questionnaire, the perception of Cypriot consumers regarding quality labels was studied. Finally, the advantages offered by the PDO and P.G.I markings are noted in detail.en_US
dc.description.abstractΟι κοινωνικές, πολιτικές και οικονομικές εξελίξεις που διαδραματίζονται σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο, έφεραν αναπόφευκτα αλλαγές και στον τομέα της γεωργίας και των τροφίμων. Η ολοένα και μεγαλύτερη αναζήτηση ποιοτικότερων τροφίμων σε συνδυασμό με την ανάγκη προστασίας προϊόντων με τη μορφή πνευματικής ιδιοκτησίας, αποτέλεσαν τη βάση για τη δημιουργία των σημάτων ποιότητας της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, μέρος των οποίων αποτελούν η Προστατευόμενη Ονομασία Προέλευσης (Π.Ο.Π.) και η Προστατευόμενη Γεωγραφική Ένδειξη (Π.Γ.Ε.). Ο στόχος των σημάτων ποιότητας απέκτησε μετέπειτα πολυδιάστατο χαρακτήρα προσφέροντας ταυτόχρονα πλεονεκτήματα σε διάφορους τομείς. Στόχος της παρούσας πτυχιακής εργασίας είναι η μελέτη σημαντικότητας των πλεονεκτημάτων που προσφέρουν οι σημάνσεις Π.Ο.Π και Π.Γ.Ε στα πέντε μεγαλύτερα νησιά της Μεσογείου: Κύπρο, Κρήτη, Σικελία, Σαρδηνία και Κορσική. Στη μελέτη αυτή, γίνεται ερμηνεία της επικρατούσας κατάστασης του τομέα της γεωργίας, της κτηνοτροφίας και των τροφίμων των πέντε νησιών. Επιπρόσθετα, μελετάται η κατάσταση των μέχρι τώρα κατοχυρώσεων τους και αναλύονται συγκεκριμένες περιπτώσεις προϊόντων των νησιών που φέρουν τη σήμανση Π.Ο.Π/ Π.Γ.Ε. Μέσω ερωτηματολογίου, μελετήθηκε η αντίληψη των Κυπρίων καταναλωτών ως προς τα σήματα ποιότητας. Τέλος, σημειώνονται αναλυτικά τα πλεονεκτήματα που προσφέρουν οι σημάνσεις Π.Ο.Π. και Π.Γ.Ε.en_US
