Professor Niki Louizidi was born in Greece to Cypriot parents. She is Emeritus Professor of History and Theory of Art at the Athens School of Fine Arts. She studied Law at the National and Kapodestrian University of Athens and History of Art at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes et Sciences Sociales VI in Paris, from where she obtained her doctorate. She has taught courses related to History of Art and Visual Culture at the University of Ioannina, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Department of History and Archeology of the University of Crete, and the Athens School of Fine Arts, where she founded and headed the Department of Art History and Theory. Professor Louizidi was a visiting professor at the University of Cyrpus in 1995, and she maintains academic collaborations with the universities in Amiens, Paris VIII and Strasbourg in France, and Essex in the UK. She was the chair of the international advisory committee for the set up of the undergraduate programme of studies in the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts, and she is presently the chair of the international advisory commitee for the set up of the undergraduate programme of studies in the Department of Fine Arts, at the Cyprus University of Technology. In the same department, she and Dr Antonis Danos have established the postgraduate programme in the History and Theory of Arts. Professor Louizidi has published extensively, having authored several books and articles, and she has been the scientific advisor in the production of a number of art documentaries.
