Dr Neocleous completed his undergraduate studies at the American University of Beirut where he received the B.E. (Mechanical Engineering) in 1977. He also studied Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor - USA where he received his M.Sc. in 1983. His Ph.D. was obtained from Brunel University of the United Kingdom in 1997. The title of his thesis was: “A Neural Network Architecture Composed of Adaptively Defined Dissimilar Single-Neurons: Applications in Engineering Design”. From 1977 to 2007 he taught engineering subjects at the Higher Technical Institute where he held the rank of Senior Lecturer. The subjects of his specialization are in “Mechanics of machines”, “Mechanisms”, “Control systems”, “Vibrations and waves”, “Computational intelligence”, “Artificial neural networks”, “Design of machine elements”, “Design of mechanical systems”, “Optimization in design”, “Naval architecture”, “Ship dynamics”. His research interests is mainly focused in intelligent systems, computational intelligence, artificial neural networks, both fundamental and applied, with applications in modelling, diagnostic systems, and in engineering design. Dr Neocleous presented many research papers in International Conferences. Few have been published in scientific journals. He has also written the Rules for “Building and Classing High-Speed Craft” and “Materials and Production Specifications for ships” for the Cyprus Bureau of Shipping.
