Ekaterini Lambrinou is an associate professor and the first elected academic staff at the Department of Nursing of the Cyprus University of Technology. She has been a member of the advisory committee for the development of the undergraduate programme of the Nursing Department and contributed to the transition programme of diploma to Bachelor degree in Nursing. She is also involved in the development of postgraduate programmes in advanced nursing in Cyprus and nurse practitioners and she is the director of the MSc programme in Advanced Acute and Intensive Cardiology Care. Over the years, she contributed to several undergraduate and postgraduate courses, mainly focusing in medical nursing and specialities, acute and intensive cardiology care and gerontology nursing. She holds a PhD, a Master’s in Clinical Nursing and a BSc from the University of Athens. Her PhD thesis focused on the education impact of nursing studies on the knowledge and attitudes of nursing students toward older people. She has been a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Nursing of the University of Athens and the University of Peloponnese. She also has professional experience in the intensive care unit at the 1st Cardiology Department of Athens Medical School, at the Hippocration Hospital in Greece, where she gained great experience on the care of people with cardiovascular diseases. With a background in gerontology, and intensive cardiology care, her research interests include: nursing educational programmes in relation to the care of older people and nurses’ role in the strategies of prevention and management of patients with cardiovascular diseases. Heart failure management is her main interest since it is one of the most common health problems of older people. Most of her publications and citations are referred to the particular topic, including high impact journals, such as European Journal of Heart failure and European Heart Journal. The last four years she sits on the Board of the European Heart Failure Association and she is the next Chair of the Council of Cardiovascular Nurses and Allied Professions of the European Society of Cardiology. Recently, she has been invited and accepted the invitation to serve as a member of the international committee of the Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing of the American Heart Association.
