Tasos Georgiades is an Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering, Cyprus University of Technology, Lemesos, Cyprus. He has previously been employed at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada – as an Assistant Professor between July 1st, 2002 and June 30th, 2007 (promoted to Associate Professor on July 1st, 2007). His research activities have been/are focused on (a) comprehensive micromechanical modeling, analysis and design of periodic composite and smart composite materials; (b) determination of the effective thermomechanical properties of carbon nanotubes; (c) modeling of nanocomposites and smart nanocomposites; (d) dynamic modeling of 2D and general 3D magnetoelectric composites and determination of associated product properties; (e) integration of fiber optic sensors with pultruded smart composite tendons for infrastructure health monitoring applications (f) fabrication, processing, testing and characterization of advanced composites (g) Non-linear finite element modeling of smart concrete beams and numerical modeling of grid-reinforced elastic composites; He holds Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Acadia University and the Technical University of Nova Scotia in Canada and MASc. and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS, Canada.
