Description
Tourism is an economic, social and cultural activity that contributes to economic development, improves the quality of life and promotes peace and mutual understanding between people. According to the World Tourism Organization, the tourism industry is the main source of foreign exchange and job creation for many countries, including Cyprus. According to the same source, the future of the tourism industry is auspicious, with tourist traffic around the world expected to reach around 1.6 billion by 2020. Ιn our country, the tourism industry already contributes a significant share in shaping national income (13% of Gross National Product) and employs about forty thousand workers. In Cyprus, the tourist industry includes, among others, hotel, food and tourist facilities, theme parks as well as organizations aiming at the sustainable development, promotion and management of tourist destinations.

Through the offered curriculum, the students of the Department acquire an academic background that allows them to take care of the hospitality and tourism industry in Cyprus in various managerial and administrative tasks. At the same time, the structure and content of the curriculum provides an opportunity for graduates to work in the public / wider public and semi-public sector as well as in companies / institutions in the field of services.
