Abstract
This thesis aims to thoroughly examine the physicochemical and microbiological parameters
of the water quality of three ponds at the Limassol Zoo. To be more exact, the research aims
to propose suitable measures in order to provide a suitable living environment for the animals
that inhabit the ponds and to prevent problems such as intense smell, eutrophication and algae
overgrowth. In order to do so, samples from each pond were taken on a monthly basis and a
set of field measurements and laboratory analysis were carried out as well as an in-depth
research of the theoretical background. The results were processed and analyzed and
conclusions were drawn for the ponds' water quality. By properly examining the data and the
problems the zoo had to overcome, measures and possible solutions to improve and meliorate
the current condition were suggested.
