Παρά την αυξανόμενη χρήση διαδραστικών τεχνολογιών στον τουριστικό τομέα, η επίδραση του Metaverse στις εμπειρίες των τουριστών, σε χώρους που συνδέονται με θάνατο και πόνο παραμένει ανεξερεύνητη. Η παρούσα μελέτη υιοθέτησε μια ποιοτική προσέγγιση, διεξάγοντας 31 συνεντεύξεις με τουρίστες και ντόπιους, καθώς και εμπειρογνώμονες στα πλαίσια του σκοτεινού τουρισμού. Τα ευρήματα υποδηλώνουν ότι παρόλο που το Metaverse έχει τη δυνατότητα να ενισχύσει τη συναισθηματική και εκπαιδευτική πτυχή της εμπειρίας, παρουσιάζει ταυτόχρονα ηθικές και πολιτικές προκλήσεις, ειδικά όσον αφορά τη διαστρέβλωση της ιστορίας και της αυθεντικότητας, την εμπορευματοποίηση του πόνου, και αύξηση των πολιτικών εντάσεων. Συνολικά, αυτή η μελέτη ενισχύει τις γνώσεις γύρο από το πλαίσιο του σκοτεινού τουρισμού και της ψηφιακής εμπειρίας παρέχοντας πολύτιμες πρακτικές και θεωρητικές γνώσεις σχετικά με τη σύγκλισή των αναδυόμενων τεχνολογιών του Metaverse και της πιο σκοτεινής κληρονομιάς. | Description: | This research examines the impact of Metaverse technologies on tourists’ experiences at the darkest places in the dark tourism supply spectrum. Despite the increasing use of interactive technologies in the tourism sector, the impact of Metaverse on tourists’ experiences at places associated with death and suffering remains underexplored. The present study adopted a qualitative methodology, conducting 31 interviews with tourists and locals, as well as experts in the context of dark tourism. The findings suggest that although Metaverse has the potential to enhance the emotional and educational aspect of the experience, it simultaneously presents ethical and political challenges, especially in terms of distorting history and authenticity, commodifying pain, and increasing political tensions.
