| dc.description | The speech and therapy services provided in Cyprus are a part that has not been described and analyzed to date, so there is no picture of the caseload who need those type of services. The present research describes the child population of speech therapy cases, of Rehabilitation Clinic of the Cyprus University of Technology, as well as correlates the various characteristics of individuals with the medical factors. The study analyzed the profile of 211 children and the collection of information was done through the files of each incident. The findings revealed that the boys were most in need of speech therapy. Moreover, most of the children were under the age of 6 years old and the most common speech therapy diagnosis was «speech and sound disorder - SSD». In terms of medical factors, most children did not have any medical diagnosis, or any hearing problems. The duration and the type of pregnancy of most children was normal. The correlations conducted showed a significant relationship between age, gender, duration and type of pregnancy, hearing problems and medical diagnosis with the need for speech therapy. In addition, speech therapy diagnosis appeared to have a significant relationship with medical diagnosis and age. Age also has a significant relationship with medical diagnosis as well. The findings of the research show that several factors are related to the need of people for speech therapy services, but further deepening is needed on this topic, to obtain a more complete picture of the speech and therapy services caseload in Cyprus, in a larger sample. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | Οι παρεχόμενες υπηρεσίες λογοθεραπείας στην Κύπρο, αποτελούν κομμάτι το οποίο δεν έχει περιγραφεί και αναλυθεί, μέχρι σήμερα, άρα δεν υπάρχει μια εικόνα του προφίλ των ατόμων που χρήζουν λογοθεραπευτικών παρεμβάσεων. Η παρούσα έρευνα, περιγράφει τον παιδικό πληθυσμό περιστατικών λογοθεραπείας, της πανεπιστημιακής Κλινικής Αποκατάστασης του Τεχνολογικού Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου, καθώς και συσχετίζει τα διάφορα χαρακτηριστικά των ατόμων με τους ιατρικούς παράγοντες. Στην έρευνα αναλύθηκε το προφίλ 211 παιδιών και η συλλογή των πληροφοριών έγινε μέσω των φακέλων του κάθε περιστατικού. Τα ευρήματα αποκάλυψαν πως μεγαλύτερη ανάγκη για λογοθεραπεία είχαν τα αγόρια. Επιπλέον τα περισσότερα παιδιά ήταν ηλικίας κάτω των 6 ετών και η πιο συχνή λογοθεραπευτική διάγνωση ήταν το «speech and sound disorder – SSD (διαταραχές στους φθόγγους της ομιλίας)». Αναφορικά με τους ιατρικούς παράγοντες, τα περισσότερα παιδιά, δεν είχαν οποιαδήποτε ιατρική διάγνωση, ούτε κάποιο πρόβλημα με την ακοή τους. Η διάρκεια κύησης των περισσότερων παιδιών ήταν φυσιολογική και ο τύπος κύησης τους ήταν κανονικός. Οι συσχετίσεις που πραγματοποιήθηκαν, έδειξαν πως σημαντική σχέση εμφανίζεται ανάμεσα στην ηλικία, το φύλο, τη διάρκεια και τον τύπο κύησης, τα προβλήματα ακοής και την ιατρική διάγνωση με την ανάγκη για λογοθεραπεία. Επιπρόσθετα, η λογοθεραπευτική διάγνωση φάνηκε να έχει σημαντική σχέση με την ιατρική διάγνωση και την ηλικία και τέλος, η ηλικία φαίνεται να έχει στατιστικά σημαντική σχέση και με την ιατρική διάγνωση. Τα ευρήματα της έρευνας δείχνουν πως αρκετοί παράγοντες σχετίζονται με την ανάγκη των ατόμων για λογοθεραπευτικές υπηρεσίες. Όμως χρειάζεται η περαιτέρω εμβάθυνση σε αυτό το θέμα, για την απόκτηση μιας πιο ολοκληρωμένης εικόνας σχετικά με τις παρεχόμενες υπηρεσίες λογοθεραπείας της Κύπρου, σε ένα μεγαλύτερο δείγμα. | en_US |
