Ωστόσο, με τη χρήση της Εναλλακτικής Επαυξητικής Τεχνολογίας η ποιότητα ζωής των ατόμων με αφασία μπορεί να βελτιωθεί σημαντικά, καθώς, μέσα από τη χρήση συμβόλων το άτομο μπορεί, όχι μόνο να συμμετέχει στις καθημερινές του δραστηριότητες και κατ’ επέκταση στην προσωπική του ζωή, αλλά και του παρέχεται η δυνατότητα να συμμετέχει σε έρευνες. Μέσα από τη χρήση των συμβόλων, τα άτομα μπορούν να κατανοούν τα έντυπα ενημέρωσης για την ενεργή συμμετοχή τους σε έρευνες αλλά και θεραπείες Σκοπός: Σκοπός της παρούσας ερευνητικής μελέτης ήταν να αξιολογηθεί η χρήση εντύπων ενημέρωσης τριών τύπων από φροντιστές ατόμων με αφασία αλλά και -κυρίως- από τα ίδια τα άτομα με αφασία, ούτως ώστε αυτά να μην αποκλείονται από τη διαδικασία ενημέρωσης και συγκατάθεσης. Μεθοδολογία: Η αξιολόγηση των εντύπου έγινε με μικτή μεθοδολογία και χρήση δομημένων συνεντεύξεων σε φροντιστές και άτομα με αφασία. Για τα άτομα με αφασία όλες οι ερωτήσεις ήταν κλειστού τύπου προς διευκόλυνση τους. Συγκεκριμένα, πραγματοποιήθηκαν δομημένες συνεντεύξεις σε 7 άτομα, εκ των οποίων οι 4 ήταν ασθενείς με διαφόρων τύπων αφασία και οι υπόλοιποι 3 ήταν φροντιστές τους . Τα άτομα κλήθηκαν να αξιολογήσουν: α) ένα τυπικό έντυπο ενημέρωσης, β) ένα έντυπο ενημέρωσης με πιο κατανοητή και απλοποιημένη γλώσσα και γ) ένα έντυπο ενημέρωσης με κατανοητή και απλοποιημένη γλώσσα και αντίστοιχα σύμβολα επικοινωνίας Mulberry. Η έρευνα πραγματοποιήθηκε στην Πανεπιστημιακή Κλινική Αποκατάστασης του Τεχνολογικού Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου. Αποτελέσματα: Τα αποτελέσματα της παρούσας μελέτης έδειξαν ότι τα άτομα με αφασία προτιμούν περισσότερο το έντυπο με το απλοποιημένο κείμενο και τα σύμβολα Mulberry. Αντίθετα, οι φροντιστές τους υποστηρίζουν ότι αυτό το έντυπο δεν θα ήταν τόσο βοηθητικό για τα άτομα με αφασία. Την προτίμηση τους στο έντυπο με πιο απλοποιημένη γλώσσα έδειξαν οι φροντιστές των ατόμων με αφασία. Συμπεράσματα: Το έντυπο με απλοποιημένη γλώσσα προτιμάται από τους φροντιστές, εφόσον χρησιμοποιεί πιο απλή και κατανοητή γλώσσα. Το έντυπο με απλοποιημένη γλώσσα και τα σύμβολα Mulberry προτιμάται από τα άτομα με αφασία, εφόσον είναι εύκολο στην ανάγνωση και την κατανόηση. Επομένως οι απόψεις ασθενών και φροντιστών διίστανται, καθιστώντας ακόμα πιο επιτακτική την ανάγκη συμπερίληψης των ατόμων με αφασία στην ανάπτυξη υλικού που απευθύνεται σε αυτά. | Description: | Introduction: The communication skills of patients with aphasia are limited. However, with the use of alternative augmented technology the quality of life of people with aphasia can be significantly improved, since, through the use of symbols, the person can not only participate in their daily activities and by extension, in their personal life, but is also given the opportunity to participate in research. Through the use of symbols, individuals can understand information forms for their active participation in research and treatment. Purpose: The purpose of this research study was to evaluate the use of three types of information forms by caregivers of people with aphasia but also, -mainly- by the people with aphasia themselves so that they are not excluded from the information and consent process. Methodology: The evaluation of the participants was done with a mixed methodology and using structured interviews with caregivers and people with aphasia. For people with aphasia, all questions were closed-ended for their convenience. Specifically, structured interviews were conducted with 7 people, of whom 4 were patients with various types of aphasia and the remaining 3 were their caregivers. Subjects were asked to rate: a) a standard information form; b) an information form with more understandable and simplified language; and c) an information form with understandable and simplified language and corresponding Mulberry communication symbols. The research was carried out at the University Rehabilitation Clinic of the Cyprus University of Technology. Results: The results of the present study showed that people with aphasia prefer the form with the simplified text and the Mulberry symbols more. In contrast, their caregivers argue that this form would not be as helpful for people with aphasia. Caregivers of people with aphasia showed their preference for the form with more simplified language. Conclusions: The simplified language form is preferred by caregivers as it uses simpler and more understandable language. The form with simplified language and Mulberry symbols is preferred by people with aphasia as it is easy to read and understand.
