dc.descriptionPeer-to-peer accommodation is one of the prominent sectors of the sharing economy, the growth of which has brought changes in global tourism. Within the tourism literature, it has gained a lot of attention from scholars who investigated several themes, focusing mostly on Airbnb. Nonetheless, there are a lot of thematic areas that are still underresearched. One of the themes yet to be explored is the role of women in peer-to-peer accommodation. According to Airbnb, women constitute 56% of hosts, with the platform claiming that women can become empowered through hosting. This dissertation explores the perceptions of women Airbnb hosts regarding women empowerment through hosting. To achieve this aim, a mixed method research approach was adopted. First, interviews were performed with women hosts located in Greece, the findings of which were used to develop a questionnaire disseminated to Greek women hosts on the Airbnb platform whereas the data were analysed using Structural Equation Modelling. The results reveal that women may become empowered through hosting on Airbnb in different ways depending on the dimensions of women empowerment and their social-cultural background.en_US
dc.description.abstractΣτα πλαίσια της οικονομίας του διαμοιρασμού, ο κλάδος της ομότιμης διαμονής έχει επιφέρει ραγδαίες εξελίξεις και αλλαγές στον παγκόσμιο τουρισμό. Διάφορες θεματικές έχουν ερευνηθεί και συζητηθεί σε σχέση με την ομότιμη διαμονή, με τις πλείστες να επικεντρώνονται στην πλατφόρμα Airbnb. Όμως, το βιβλιογραφικό κενό παραμένει ακόμα πλούσιο σε θεματολογία. Ένα θέμα το οποίο παραμένει αδιερεύνητο είναι ο ρόλος των γυναικών στην ομότιμη διαμονή. Σύμφωνα με την πλατφόρμα Airbnb, οι γυναίκες αποτελούν το 56% των οικοδεσποτών της ενώ η πλατφόρμα ισχυρίζεται ότι μέσα από τη δραστηριότητα της φιλοξενίας οι γυναίκες χειραφετούνται. Η διατριβή αυτή επιδιώκει να διερευνήσει τις αντιλήψεις των οικοδεσποινών της πλατφόρμας Airbnb για την απόκτηση γυναικείας χειραφέτησης μέσω της δραστηριότητας της φιλοξενίας. Η διατριβή υιοθέτησε μικτή μέθοδο έρευνας. Πρώτα, πραγματοποιήθηκαν συνεντεύξεις με οικοδέσποινες στην Ελλάδα και μετέπειτα, βάσει των ποιοτικών δεδομένων, αναπτύχθηκε ερωτηματολόγιο το οποίο διανεμήθηκε σε Ελληνίδες οικοδέσποινες της πλατφόρμας Airbnb ενώ τα αποτελέσματα του αναλύθηκαν με τη μέθοδο Δομικά Μοντέλα Εξισώσεων. Όπως διαφαίνεται από τα αποτελέσματα, οι οικοδέσποινες μπορούν να χειραφετηθούν από τη δραστηριότητα της φιλοξενίας ανάλογα με τις διαφορετικές διαστάσεις της γυναικείας χειραφέτησης αλλά και το προφίλ της κάθε οικοδέσποινας.en_US
