S Centre of Excellence (ECoE) is a new, autonomous, and self-sustained Centre of Excellence, that has been established through the ‘EXCELSIOR’, H2020 Widespread Teaming Phase 2 project, funded by the European Commission. The vision of the ECoE is to become a world-class Digital Innovation Hub for Earth Observation, space technology and Geospatial Information and to be the reference Centre in the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East, and North Africa (EMMENA). During the stakeholders’ event, ECoE aspires to connect with esteemed stakeholders and scientists in the field of Earth Observation (EO) and explore pathways for future synergies that will contribute to a sustainable future in the EMMENA region. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. ECoE’s focus lies in contributing to the following SDG’s: #3 – Good Health and Well-being #6 – Clean Water and Sanitation #7 – Affordable and Clean Energy #8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth #11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities #13 – Climate Action #14 – Life below Water #15 – Life on Land #17 – Partnerships for the Goals Each participant of the event was given the opportunity to briefly present (approx. 15 minutes) themselves and their organization along with the research and technical activities and their connection to the UN SDG’s. The presentations were followed by an open discussion to explore possible ways for collaboration. It was essential through the submitted abstracts to highlight how the conducted work or research with EO data could support either in total or partly the SDG’s mentioned above.en_US
