| dc.description | Scrapie is a deadly infectious disease in sheep and goats, which causes degeneration of the central nervous system. The isoform of the normal, prion protein (PrP), is the infectious agent that causes an unusual configuration, which affects both the structure and the functionality. Various strains belong to this infectious agent which are formed due to the polymorphism of the PRNP gene, associated with the resistance or susceptibility of sheep and goats to the disease. The emergence of the disease and its rapid transmission in Europe and in the world, in general, were the conditions that prompted the conduct of many studies on the subject. Although there isn’t a treatment just yet, there are now many reports that contribute to the detection and reduction of the disease, that protect to some extent the future viability of the industry. In the present bibliographic review, the etiology, the forms, the pathogenesis, and the symptoms are developed, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Besides that, the genetic polymorphisms that determine susceptibility or resistance to the disease and the effect of choosing for resistant genotypes on the productive characteristics of sheep and goats are intensively discussed. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | Η τρομώδης νόσος (Scrapie) είναι μία θανατηφόρα μολυσματική ασθένεια των αιγοπροβάτων, η οποία προκαλεί εκφυλισμό του κεντρικού νευρικού συστήματος. Μια διαφορετική μορφή της φυσιολογικής πρωτεΐνης prion (PrP) αποτελεί τον μολυσματικό παράγοντα, ο οποίος μετατρέπει την φυσιολογική μορφή της πρωτεΐνης σε μία ασυνήθιστη διαμόρφωση, που επηρεάζει τόσο τη δομή όσο και τη λειτουργικότητά της. Στον μολυσματικό αυτόν παράγοντα, ανήκουν διάφορες παραλλαγές λόγω της πολυμορφικότητας του γονιδίου PRNP, από τις οποίες εξαρτάται η ανθεκτικότητα ή ευαισθησία των αιγοπροβάτων έναντι της νόσου. Η εμφάνιση της νόσου και η ταχύτατη μεταδοτική της πορεία στην Ευρώπη και γενικότερα σε ολόκληρη την υφήλιο, παρακίνησαν τη διεξαγωγή πολλών ερευνών επί του θέματος. Παρόλο που δεν υπάρχει θεραπεία για την ασθένεια, υπάρχουν πολλές μελέτες που αφορούν την ανίχνευση, την αντιμετώπιση και τον περιορισμό της νόσου που προστατεύουν σε κάποιο βαθμό τη μελλοντική βιωσιμότητα του κλάδου. Στην παρούσα βιβλιογραφική ανασκόπηση αναπτύσσονται η αιτιολογία, οι μορφές, η παθογένεια, η συμπτωματολογία, η διάγνωση και η θεραπεία της νόσου καθώς και οι γενετικοί πολυμορφισμοί που καθορίζουν την ευαισθησία ή ανθεκτικότητα στη νόσο και η επίδραση της επιλογής για ανθεκτικούς γονότυπους στα παραγωγικά χαρακτηριστικά των αιγοπροβάτων. | en_US |
