| dc.description | Theodoros Aggelopoulos’ cinematic work is one of the most important examples of modernist cinema globally, and, as a «Mediterranean» creation, it questions the dominant narrative of modernity (in general) and modernism (in particular), as «exclusive products» of the northwestern hegemony. His unconventional «art house» films rejected the speculative perspective of Hollywood’s mainstream productions, and optimised the methods and means of the «minimalist» Italian Neorealism and of the great «auteurs» of modern European cinema. As a result, they managed to renew radically the range of topics and the narrative language, at a time when formal innovation seemed to have been exhausted. Through his poetic sequence shots, Aggelopoulos attempted to analyze the dystopic present, by recalling historical memory; he extoled «slowness» as a new philosophy of life; he went beyond personal and national boundaries; and he questioned and deconstructed identities, ultimately aiming for a utopia. In the last period of his work, he aimed to establish a new politic of cultural universality, against the neoliberal globalization that allows the ravaging domination of capital, and which breaks the social fabric leading to total moral corrosion. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | To κινηματογραφικό έργο του Θόδωρου Αγγελόπουλου αποτελεί μια εκ των σημαντικότερων περιπτώσεων μοντερνιστικού κινηματογράφου παγκόσμια, το οποίο, ως «μεσογειακή» δημιουργία, δύναται να ανακρίνει το κυρίαρχο αφήγημα περί νεωτερικότητας (γενικότερα) και μοντερνισμού (ειδικότερα), ως «αποκλειστικά παράγωγα» της βορειοδυτικής ηγεμονίας. Οι αντισυμβατικές, «καλλιτεχνικού σινεμά» δημιουργίες του, απεκδυόμενες την κερδοσκοπική προοπτική των χολυγουντιανών mainstream παραγωγών, αξιοποίησαν τις μεθόδους και τα μέσα του «μινιμαλιστικού» ιταλικού Nεορεαλισμού και των μεγάλων auteur του μοντέρνου ευρωπαϊκού σινεμά, και πέτυχαν τη ρηξικέλευθη ανανέωση της θεματολογίας και της αφηγηματικής γλώσσας, σε μια χρονική στιγμή που οι δυνατότητες στιλιστικής ανανέωσης έδειχναν να έχουν εξαντληθεί. Με τα ποιητικά του μονόπλανα, ο Αγγελόπουλος εξηγεί το δυστοπικό παρόν ανακαλώντας την ιστορική μνήμη, αποθεώνει τη βραδύτητα ως φιλοσοφία ζωής, υπερβαίνει (ατομικά και κοινωνικά) όρια, αμφισβητεί και αποδομεί ταυτότητες, στοχεύοντας στην ουτοπία. Στην ύστερη φάση του έργου του, έθεσε ως στόχο τη θεμελίωση μιας νέας πολιτικής για πολιτιστική οικουμενικότητα, ενάντια στη νεοφιλελεύθερη διεθνοποίηση που επιτρέπει την ισοπεδωτική κυριαρχία του κεφαλαίου, τη διάρρηξη του κοινωνικού ιστού και την πλήρη ηθική παρακμή. | en_US |
