| dc.description | This paper is a quantitative study aimed at describing the skills of Phonological Awareness (PA)—skills foundational to the successful development of reading and writing—and the creation of norms relating to the Short Form of the Metaphon test (screening test) . Norms will be based on results obtained from the Short Form of the Metaphon test taken by children attending preschool or the first year of primary school. Finally, amendments to the Short form Metaphon test will be suggested, such that results obtained from the test are better representative of speakers of the Cypriot dialect. The research involved children of preschool and primary school age (5-9 years old) who were speakers of the Cypriot dialect. The following tools were used: DVIQ (Diagnostic Verbal IQ Test), Action Images, Expressive Vocabulary Test, Vocal Distinguishing and Vocabulary (two scales of the Athena test), Bus Story test, Ravens test, PPVT (Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test), Repetition of sentences, Metaphon test (Short format). However, the research focused on the Short form of the Metaphon test—a tool for Metaphonological Development and Reading Readiness with respect to PA consisting of 15 evaluation criteria. Upon obtaining the necessary permits and consent the tests were administered to the participating children within the school environment. The results were then passed to a computer and analyzed in Excel. The results of the children in the Metaphon test were compared with their results on the Sound Distinction Scale, where there was a discrepancy between the two tests. This leads to the conclusion that children need more practice with preschool activities as it is considered a prerequisite for successful reading and writing. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | Η παρούσα εργασία αποτελεί μια ποσοτική έρευνα που στοχεύει στην περιγραφή των δεξιοτήτων Φωνολογικής Ενημερότητας (ΦΕ) - μιας ικανότητας, στενά συνδεδεμένης με τα πρώτα στάδια ανάγνωσης και γραφής- και τη δημιουργία νορμών, σχετικά με τη Βραχεία μορφή του ΜέταΦΩΝ τεστ που αντιστοιχεί σε ανιχνευτικό εργαλείο. Οι νόρμες, βασίζονται στα αποτελέσματα που θα ληφθούν από τη χορήγηση του συγκεκριμένου εργαλείου σε παιδιά προσχολικής και πρώτης σχολικής ηλικίας. Τέλος, παρουσιάζονται εισηγήσεις για την τροποποίηση των λέξεων της Βραχείας μορφής του ΜέταΦΩΝ τεστ, που δεν χρησιμοποιούνται στην Κυπριακή διάλεκτο, με απώτερο σκοπό, την εξαγωγή αντιπροσωπευτικότερων αποτελεσμάτων. Στην έρευνα, έλαβαν μέρος παιδιά προσχολικής και πρώτης σχολικής ηλικίας (5 - 9 ετών), τα οποία ήταν ομιλητές της Κυπριακής διαλέκτου. Το υλικό που χρησιμοποιήθηκε ήταν τα εξής δοκίμια: DVIQ (Diagnostic Verbal IQ Test), Εικόνες Δράσης, Δοκιμασία Εκφραστικού Λεξιλογίου, Διάκριση φθόγγων και Λεξιλόγιο (δύο κλίμακες του Αθηνά τεστ), Bus Story test, Ravens test, PPVT (Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test), Επανάληψη προτάσεων, ΜέταΦΩΝ τεστ (Βραχεία μορφή). Ωστόσο, η έρευνα επικεντρώθηκε στη Βραχεία χορήγηση του ΜέταΦΩΝ τεστ - δοκίμιο Μεταφωνολογικής ανάπτυξης και αναγνωστικής ετοιμότητας ως προς τη Φ.Ε, το οποίο αποτελείται από 15 κριτήρια αξιολόγησης. Αρχικά, πάρθηκαν οι απαραίτητες άδειες και συγκαταθέσεις. Έπειτα, χορηγήθηκαν τα δοκίμια στα παιδιά, στον σχολικό χώρο και ακολούθως, τα αποτελέσματα περάστηκαν σε Η/Υ, και αναλύθηκαν στην Excel. Τα αποτελέσματα των παιδιών στο ΜέταΦΩΝ τεστ συγκρίθηκαν με τα αποτελέσματά τους στην Κλίμακα Διάκρισης Φθόγγων, όπου διαφάνηκε ασυμφωνία μεταξύ των δύο δοκιμίων. Αυτό, οδηγεί στο συμπέρασμα, ότι τα παιδιά χρειάζονται περισσότερη εξάσκηση με δραστηριότητες Φ.Ε στην προσχολική ηλικία, αφού θεωρείται προϋπόθεση για την επιτυχημένη ανάγνωση και γραφή. | en_US |
