| dc.description | Social inequalities in health in recent years have been the focus of discussions and reflections at European Union level, international organizations and the scientific community. While significant progress has been made in the field of health, the level of inequalities between different social groups and between people living in different parts of the world remains high. The social gradient in health, disease and mortality is one of the most widely observed and reliable epidemiological findings of international research. Social cohesion is seriously threatened by social inequalities in health, and therefore, their investigation is an important research field. The reasons behind the phenomenon of social inequalities, still remain unclear. The environment in which one lives plays a crucial role in this. However, the existence of socio-economic disadvantage, psychosocial effects (social cohesion), health behaviors and gender, may explain - in part- the social gradient in health. In addition, there is a growing interest in monitoring perceived quality of life (self-rated health). | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | Οι κοινωνικές ανισότητες στην υγεία βρίσκονται τα τελευταία έτη στο επίκεντρο των συζητήσεων και προβληματισμών σε επίπεδο Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, διεθνών οργανισμών, καθώς και σε αυτό της επιστημονικής κοινότητας. Ενώ έχει επιτευχθεί αξιοσημείωτη πρόοδος στον τομέα της υγείας, εν τούτοις το επίπεδο των ανισοτήτων μεταξύ διαφόρων κοινωνικών ομάδων και μεταξύ ατόμων που ζουν σε διαφορετικά μέρη του κόσμου, παραμένει υψηλό. Η κοινωνική διαβάθμιση στην υγεία, την ασθένεια και τη θνησιμότητα είναι ένα από τα ευρύτερα παρατηρούμενα και αξιόπιστα ευρήματα της διεθνούς επιδημιολογικής έρευνας. Η κοινωνική συνοχή απειλείται σοβαρά από τις κοινωνικές ανισότητες, στον τομέα της υγείας, και ως εκ τούτου, η διερεύνησή τους αποτελεί σημαντικό πεδίο έρευνας. Οι λόγοι πίσω από το φαινόμενο των κοινωνικών ανισοτήτων, εξακολουθούν να παραμένουν ασαφείς σε ορισμένες καταστάσεις. Το περιβάλλον όπου ζει κανείς, διαδραματίζει ένα κρίσιμο ρόλο σε αυτό το θέμα. Ωστόσο, η ύπαρξη του κοινωνικόοικονομικού μειονεκτήματος, οι ψυχοκοινωνικές επιδράσεις (κοινωνική συνοχή), οι συμπεριφορές υγείας, το φύλο, μπορεί να εξηγήσουν- εν μέρει- την κοινωνική διαβάθμιση στην υγεία.
