Abstract
The use of mobile phones is something that has been gradually spreading globally, at an incredibly high pace. Apart from the fact that it plays a major role in our lives, users of all ages are increasing as well. Most of us use them on a daily basis as they allow us to communicate with each other, regardless of location. It is the greatest form of induction in the Greek as well as Cypriot community as it covers the need of long distance communication between users. A mobile phone, is named as such, because there is no need for a cable connection to be attached to it in order to be connected to a telecommunication service. Also it is not depended on any type of -low frequency-local radio broadcasting. This paper, studies the ways in which Cypriot typography can be applied through an electronic device, smartphones in particular. Smartphones are computers that could be carried in a pocket, anywhere. Apart from basic calls, they also give the user the ability to browse the internet, play games, contact others through video calls, play music, pay bills etc. Taking all of the above into account, the current study attempts to research how the use of mobile phones-particularly smartphones- can contribute in the growth as well as preservation of the Cypriot dialect and how it could even be adapted in a keyboard. In addition, such a motive could help the Cypriot culture to be promoted and even used through communication. This research aims to study the potential smart keyboards hold, when adapted with additional characters/dialects/languages, mainly Cypriot typography. The action research is comprised of three rounds that aim to develop as well as create the particular application. The participants will be consisted of a variety of people, regardless of age and sex so the development of the application can reach its greatest potential
