Abstract: The application of remote sensing methods and practices of spacial analysis of Geographical Information System constitutes an established methodological approach to archaeological surveys, whose purpose is to interpret the relationship between the archaeological sites and the environment. The following project includes a dual procedure. Firstly, it consists of an attempt to examine the interaction between the natural environment of the Troodos district, the residential areas as well as zones of social activity, evaluating the spatial data of the research programme of the Archaeological and Environmental Survey of the Troodos district (TAESP). The above study was organised according to a complete basis of data that was linked to the corresponding system of organisation of cartographic information. For the inquiry of the efficacy of such an approach, statistics and spatial analysis are used which enable the process of extracting and visualising information. Basic limitations which are examined interactively include the structure and the density of the locations of study, the surface of the terrain in function with the inclination and orientation of the terrain, the spatial interrelationship and classification of the locations and their visibility. Secondly, it aims to recognise the differentiation of vegetation by applying the vegetation Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) which is calculated through WorldView-2 as well as the processing of land cover of the location in question utilising the data of the European Land Cover Project CORINE (CORINE LAND COVER PROJECT). The results were thoroughly examined to investigate the role of the archaeological sites were recorded from TAESP and the exploitation of the surrounding environment, by exploring their location in terms of the natural environment.
