dc.descriptionThis research was conducted in the framework of an undergraduate thesis titled "Comprehension and production of compound words in Greek Cypriot children". A total of 18 children, aged 5-8 years, of whom 9 were boys (mean age = 6.28 years) and 9 were girls (mean age = 6.25 years) participated in this study. Specifically, all children were administered the Greek Compound Word Test, (CWT: Kambanaros, 2014). The tool has two subtests that were given to all children. The first subtest, examined the parsing and definition of compound words and the second, tested the naming of compound words. In general, boys performed statistically significantly better (p = 0.023) than girls in the parsing and definition subtest but did not differ in the naming subtest. However, given the age of the children, both boys and girls generally scored below average on both subtests. The results showed that children had no difficulty retrieving the syntactic information that is, parsing the head and modifier of the compound word. Instead, providing definitions and naming of compound words was significantly difficult for all children.en_US
dc.description.abstractΗ παρούσα έρευνα εκπονήθηκε στα πλαίσια της πτυχιακής εργασίας με τίτλο «Κατανόηση και παραγωγή σύνθετων λέξεων σε παιδιά ηλικίας 5-8 ετών, φυσικούς ομιλητές της Κυπριακής Ελληνικής». Στην παρούσα έρευνα συμμετείχαν 18 παιδιά ηλικίας 5-8 χρονών ( Ν=18) από τα οποία 9 ήταν αγόρια ( ΜΗ=6,28) και 9 ήταν κορίτσια ( ΜΗ= 6,25). Συγκεκριμένα, σε όλα τα παιδιά χορηγήθηκε το εργαλείο Σύνθετων Λέξεων ( Kambanaros, (2014): Compound Word Test, 2014). Το εργαλείο αποτελείται από δύο δοκιμασίες στις οποίες εξετάστηκαν όλα τα παιδιά. Η πρώτη δοκιμασία εξέτασε την κατανόηση και oρισμό των σύνθετων λέξεων και η δεύτερη δοκιμασία την κατονομασία των σύνθετων λέξεων. Γενικότερα, τα αγόρια ήταν στατιστικά σημαντικά καλύτερα (p = 0,023) από τα κορίτσια στην διαδικασία επεξήγησης της λέξης χωρίς ωστόσο να διαφέρουν στο κομμάτι της κατονομασίας. Παρόλα αυτά, έχοντας υπόψη την ηλικία των παιδιών, καταλήγουμε στο συμπέρασμα ότι τόσο τα αγόρια όσο και τα κορίτσια σημείωσαν γενικότερα βαθμολογίες κάτω από τον Μέσο Όρο και στις δύο δοκιμασίες.en_US
