Abstract
The project 4D-CH-World supports the aim of our European Commons and the digital libraries EUROPEANA and UNESCO Memory of the World (MoW) to build a sense of a shared European cultural history and identity providing new digital data of cultural heritage. Foster already existing collaborations within consortium: 4D-CH-World forms the most suitable framework for amplifying on‐going collaborations between its consortium members and aligning them into a well‐defined R&D target. Consortium members have been already participated in joint experimental research efforts on computer aided archaeological and urban environments 3D reconstructionsthat have also been the main triggering mechanism in setting this 4D-CH-Worldproject together. Create and maintain long-lasting collaboration between the participants: During 4D-CH-World further knowledge and skills will be acquired which will contribute to long-lasting collaboration between enterprises and academic/research institutes after the end of the project. Both enterprises and the academic institutes have strategic interest into the 4D-CH-World collaborative effort, as the enterprises are seeking for new technological toolkits arising from the field of computer vision, learning, graphics, digitization and visualization whereas the academic institutes expect to greatly benefit from their interaction with the commercial sector with respect to optimize their R&D and align it to real‐world needs. Strengthen the competitiveness of part participating enterprises and institutes: This collaboration aims at delivering the first worldwide fully automated 4D reconstruction system capable to handle in the wild large image galleries. This project will give the partners the possibility to acquire and implement new know-how that puts them ahead of the competition in the spatio-temporal man-made environment reconstruction for cultural heritage preservation. As such, 4D-CH-World is considered as a critical step towards enabling the participating enterprises to penetrate the market providing an innovative and useful system for inter-science communication, collaboration and cooperation whilst providing the most useful feedback to the academic and research institutes from the real world applications. Institutes will then, in turn, to be able to optimize and fine-tune their research on 4D urban environments reconstruction towards a clearly identified real-world need.
