Work Accomplished
The Congress was attended by 330 delegates, reaching the highest numbers of scientific research works (276) ever presented. As chairman of the Organizing Committee, my engagement included the construction of a functional website, the invitation of a high number (16) of well-esteemed keynote speakers in various fields of Horticultural Science, the organization of a Workshop entitled ‘Post-graduate and postdoctoral research in the area of Horticulture’ where relevant information from Universities of US, UK, Greece and Cyprus was presented. Two volumes with full texts (a total of 197 full text papers) were provided in printable form within one year after the end of the Conference in a two column format resembling refereed journals. Thanks to sponsorship from 30 private companies (300-3000€), reduced fees were offered to delegates and most promptly in the undergraduate students. In addition, based on the records of the Accountant Office of CUT that handled the economical part of the Congress, an amount of 13000€ was offered as Scholarships into four postgraduate students of CUT. An additional amount of 1000 € was allocated for technical support needed to construct the newly introduced official website of the HSHS. The website was launched in August 2013.
