Σε αντιπαράθεση με τη ρητορική περί «ρήξης» με το παρελθόν, στην οποία στηρίχθηκε μεγάλο μέρος της ιδεολογίας του ηγεμονικού μοντερνισμού, έμφαση δίνεται στην «Παράδοση» ως δυναμική πτυχή του μοντερνισμού. Στο σημείο αυτό δίνεται η εναλλακτική θεώρηση της «Παράδοσης» ως δυναμική παράμετρος της Νεωτερικότητας, δηλαδή, όπως αυτή αναπτύχθηκε εκτός των «κέντρων» της βορειοδυτικής ηγεμονίας. Θέματα περί διασταυρώσεων και προσμίξεων, υβριδικότητας, περιφεριακότητας, εθνικότητας, παράδοσης και λαϊκής αρχιτεκτονικής έχουν προκύψει και αναφέρονται. Η λεπτομερής ανάλυση της εξέλιξης του μοντέρνου κινήματος στην αρχιτεκτονική, με αναφορές στην «κλασική» αφήγηση της μοντέρνας αρχιτεκτονικής, στις διάφορες περιόδους του μοντερνισμού στην αρχιτεκτονική και, ειδικότερα, στους διάφορους μοντέρνους αρχιτέκτονες και κάποιων σημαντικών έργων τους, καθίσταται αναγκαία ως προς την καλύτερη κατανόηση του αρχιτεκτονικού μοντερνισμού στη Μεσόγειο. Ιδιαίτερη έμφαση δίνεται σε έναν από τους σημαντικότερους αρχιτέκτονες, τον Le Corbusier, ο οποίος θεωρείται «πατέρας» του μοντερνισμού. Μέσω της αναφοράς αυτής διαφαίνεται η ιδιαίτερη σχέση του με την Μεσόγειο και συνάμα ο επηρεασμός του από την τελευταία, σε σχέση με την ανάπτυξη του αρχιτεκτονικού μοντερνισμού. Τέλος, εξετάζεται ο ελληνικός αρχιτεκτονικός μοντερνισμός, μέσα από το έργο των δύο γνωστότερων εκπροσώπων της εποχής, του Δημήτρη Πικιώνη και του Άρη Κωνσταντινίδη. | Description: | An examination of the Mediterranean in Modernity, philosophically given as an alternative theory, as well as in the arts in general, creates a different interest in the evolution of a historical era. In contrast to the rhetoric of "rupture" with the past, on which a great part of the ideology of the hegemonic modernism relied, there is instead, an emphasis on "tradition" as a dynamic aspect of modernism. An alternative theory of "tradition", as a dynamic parameter of "Modernity", is given, as it develops outside the "centres" of the northwest hegemony. Issues of intersections and impurities, hybridity, peripherality, nationality, tradition, and folk architecture are explored. It is followed by a detailed analysis of the evolution of the modern movement in architecture, with references to a "classical" narration of modern architecture, to different periods of modernism and specifically to various modern architects and some important works of them; this is necessary, for a better understanding of the architectural modernism in the Mediterranean. A special emphasis is given to one of the most important architects, Le Corbusier, who is considered the "father" of modernism. Through this reference, a special connection of his with the Mediterranean is observed, focusing on this influence, in relation to the development of architectural modernism.
