dc.descriptionThe purpose of this work was to study the current trends in cultivation practices of apple (Malus domestica L.). Specifically, this research presents all the necessary tasks to establish a modern apple orchard, including site, variety and rootstock selection, as well as soil preparation and proper plantation. Additionally, this study reports the new training systems, highlighting the newly emerged apple varieties of trade. Extensive study is also conducted to report the new cultivation techniques, including irrigation, fertilization and fruit thinning. This study also provides current trends and challenges on breeding programs. Apple cultivar susceptibility to physiological disorders as well as pests and diseases are also discussed. Lastly, this work indicates the appropriate maturity indices for harvest, as well as treatments and storage conditions in order to preserve the fruit the whole year round.en_US
dc.description.abstractΒασικός στόχος της βιβλιογραφικής ανασκόπησης που πραγματοποιήθηκε ήταν η μελέτη των σύγχρονων τάσεων στην καλλιέργεια της μηλιάς (Malus domestica L.). Συγκεκριμένα η μελέτη επικεντρώθηκε σε όλες τις απαραίτητες προεργασίες για την εγκατάσταση ενός σύγχρονου οπωρώνα μηλιάς, όπως η προετοιμασία του εδάφους, η επιλογή κατάλληλου υποκειμένου και ποικιλίας, καθώς και η ορθή επιλογή και φύτευση των δένδρων ανάλογα με τις εδαφοκλιματικές συνθήκες. Επιπρόσθετα, γίνεται εκτεταμένη αναφορά στα νέα συστήματα φύτευσης καθώς και τις νέες και επικρατέστερες ποικιλίες του σημερινού εμπορίου. Επιπλέον, δίνεται έμφαση στις σύγχρονες καλλιεργητικές πρακτικές, δηλαδή στην άρδευση, την λίπανση, το αραίωμα των καρπών. Επίσης, η εργασία εστιάζει στα νέα συστήματα διαμόρφωσης. Εκτεταμένη αναφορά γίνεται και στις φυσιολογικές διαταραχές, τους εχθρούς και ασθένειες των μηλοειδών, αλλά και σε διάφορα προβλήματα που αντιμετωπίζει ο σύγχρονος οπωρώνας μηλιάς. Τέλος, η μελέτη περιλαμβάνει τα ορθά κριτήρια συγκομιδής καθώς και τις σωστές συνθήκες αποθήκευσης κατά την ωρίμανση των καρπών μέχρι τη διάθεση και κατανάλωσή τους.en_US
