| dc.description | The current dissertation titled "The influence of the political ideology of the Cypriots towards the Covid-19 vaccine" has been researched and conducted by Stavri Vassiliou, a student of the Department of Communication and Internet Studies at the Cyprus University of Technology under the supervision of Dr. Dionysis Panos and was completed in May 2021. The new health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has stirred the data of the time as the virus’s treatment has become a hot potato and the centre of global discussion. Generally, vaccine attitudes have been widely discussed as vaccine reluctance has increased in recent decades. However, the issue becomes more acute in the Covid-19 era. Thusly, this dissertation studies the attitude of Cypriots towards the Covid-19 vaccine and more specifically, it examines whether these attitudes are influenced by political ideology. The aim of the study is to examine the possible factors associated with the reluctance towards Covid-19 vaccines in the Cypriot population and for this purpose the variables Political Ideology, Religiosity, Confidence in institutions, Gender, Age, Education and Occupational status are tested. Through the research questions, the following research questions are examined (a) the general attitude of the Cypriots towards the Covid-19 vaccine and (b) whether there is a correlation, mainly between the Political Ideology and the attitude towards the Covid-19 vaccine. Through the literature review, the correlation of the selected independent variables and the dependent variable under consideration emerges. This dissertation follows a quantitative approach and has utilised questionnaires as a data collection tool. The survey sample consists of 200 Cypriot citizens. The results of the research showed that the general attitude of Cypriots towards the Covid-19 vaccine tends to be neutral, i.e. it tends to be neither negative nor positive and there is a strong correlation between political ideology and attitude towards the vaccine. Finally, as revealed by the findings, Religion, Trust in Institutions and the Level of Education, seem to have a stronger statistical correlation with the attitude towards the vaccine than the factor of Political Ideology. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | Η παρούσα πτυχιακή εργασία με τίτλο «Η επίδραση της πολιτικής ιδεολογίας των Κυπρίων απέναντι στο εμβόλιο του Κορωνοϊού» εκπονήθηκε από την Σταύρη Βασιλείου, φοιτήτρια του Τμήματος Επικοινωνίας και Σπουδών Διαδικτύου του Τεχνολογικού Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου υπό την επίβλεψη του Δρ. Διονύσιου Πάνου και ολοκληρώθηκε τον Μάιο του 2021. Η νέα υγειονομική κρίση που προκλήθηκε από την πανδημία του Κορωνοϊού έχει ανατρέψει τα δεδομένα της εποχής καθώς η αντιμετώπισή του αποτελεί ένα φλέγον θέμα συζήτησης σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο. Η στάση των ατόμων ως προς τα εμβόλια είχε γενικότερα συζητηθεί καθώς η διστακτικότητα ως προς τα εμβόλια έχει αυξηθεί τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες. Ωστόσο, το ζήτημα γίνεται εντονότερο εν εποχή Κορωνοϊού. Η παρούσα πτυχιακή εργασία μελετά τη στάση των Κυπρίων απέναντι στο εμβόλιο του Κορωνοϊού και πιο συγκεκριμένα εξετάζει εάν αυτή επηρεάζεται από την πολιτική τους ιδεολογία. Στόχος της μελέτης είναι να εξετάσει τους πιθανούς παράγοντες που συσχετίζονται με τη διστακτικότητα του εμβολίου του Κορωνοϊού στο Κυπριακό κοινό και για τον σκοπό αυτό ελέγχονται οι μεταβλητές, Πολιτική Ιδεολογία, Θρησκευτικότητα, Εμπιστοσύνη στους Θεσμούς, Φύλο, Ηλικία, Εκπαίδευση και Επαγγελματική κατάσταση. Μέσω των ερευνητικών ερωτημάτων, εξετάζεται (α) η γενικότερη στάση των Κυπρίων απέναντι στο εμβόλιο του Κορωνοϊού και (β) κατά πόσο υπάρχει συσχέτιση κυρίως μεταξύ της Πολιτικής Ιδεολογίας και της στάσης για το εμβόλιο του Κορωνοϊού. Μέσα από την βιβλιογραφική επισκόπηση αναδύεται η συσχέτιση των επιλεγμένων ανεξάρτητων μεταβλητών και της εξαρτημένης μεταβλητής που εξετάζονται. Η συγκεκριμένη πτυχιακή μελέτη ακολουθεί την ποσοτική προσέγγιση και ως εργαλείο συλλογής δεδομένων χρησιμοποίησε το ερωτηματολόγιο. Το δείγμα της έρευνας αποτελείται από 200 Κύπριους πολίτες. Τα αποτελέσματα της έρευνας έδειξαν ότι η γενικότερη στάση των Κυπρίων απέναντι στο εμβόλιο του Κορωνοϊού τείνει να είναι ουδέτερη, καθώς υπάρχει ισχυρή συσχέτιση μεταξύ πολιτικής ιδεολογίας και στάσης για το εμβόλιο. Τέλος, όπως διαφάνηκε μέσα από τα ευρήματα η Θρησκεία, η Εμπιστοσύνη στους Θεσμούς αλλά και το Επίπεδο Εκπαίδευσης, φαίνεται να έχουν πιο ισχυρή στατιστικά συσχέτιση με τη στάση για το εμβόλιο παρά ο παράγοντας της Πολιτικής Ιδεολογίας. | en_US |
