This study aimed to investigate travel motivation and demotivation within a politically unstable setting. Using a mixed method approach, namely interviews and social network analysis, the study yields important insights on the nature of travel motivation and demotivation in contexts of political instability as well as on the role of the socio-political environment in determining and reinforcing respective travel behaviour. The paper highlights the need to consider the wider structural factors shaping societies if understanding on travel behaviour in politically unstable environments is to be gained and calls for further research on the dimensions influencing travel-related decision-making.en_US
