| dc.description | Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) does not feature in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) but is diagnosed as a distinct disorder. APD is characterized by normal auditory sensitivity but disturbed processing of sounds (verbal and non-verbal). The study aims to acquaint readers with the current controversies surrounding APD about how conflicting perspectives of APD negatively influence the decision to take diagnostic approaches and how APD can appear in language disorders, learning disabilities, dyslexia, and attention deficit. Researchers' conflicts regarding definition, diagnosis, and differential diagnosis are described, and the neurophysiological mechanisms of auditory processing processes are analyzed. Furthermore, research data from case studies of school-age children (n=6, 9; 6 – 11; 6) with language or learning disorders are presented, examining the possible existence of a comorbid APD using the Children’s Auditory Performance Scale (CHAPS) by teachers. According to the findings, the child who failed the language and learning tests also failed the CHAPS. Further research to develop the gold standard for a diagnosis in this population would be beneficial. Despite growing research interest, there is a great need for additional research with higher scientific rigor to develop clinical guidelines for assessment and diagnosis as well as individualized therapeutic intervention, with an emphasis on the interdisciplinary community. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | Η Διαταραχή Ακουστικής Επεξεργασίας (ΔΑΕ) δεν περιλαμβάνεται στο Διαγνωστικό και Στατιστικό Εγχειρίδιο Ψυχικών Διαταραχών (DSM-5), αλλά διαγιγνώσκεται ως διακριτή διαταραχή. Χαρακτηρίζεται από φυσιολογική ακουστική ευαισθησία με μειωμένη αντίληψη των ήχων (λεκτικών και μη). Στόχος της μελέτης να εξοικειωθούν οι αναγνώστες, με τις τρέχουσες διαμάχες γύρω από την ΔΑΕ στο πως οι αντικρουόμενες προοπτικές επιδρούν αρνητικά στην απόφαση λήψης διαγνωστικών προσεγγίσεων και της στενής συννοσηρότητας των γλωσσικών και μαθησιακών διαταραχών, της δυσλεξίας και της ελλειμματικής προσοχής. Περιγράφονται οι συγκρούσεις διαφόρων ερευνητών σχετικά με τον ορισμό, διάγνωση διαφοροδιάγνωση και αναλύονται οι νευροφυσιολογικοί μηχανισμοί των διεργασιών ακουστικής επεξεργασίας. Επιπλέον παρουσιάζονται ερευνητικά δεδομένα απο περιπτώσεις παιδιών σχολικής ηλικίας (n=6, 9; 6 - 11; 6), με γλωσσικές ή και μαθησιακές διαταραχές, εξετάζοντας την πιθανή ύπαρξη συννοσηρής κατάστασης ΔΑΕ αξιοποιώντας την ανιχνευτική κλίμακα ακουστικής απόδοσης CHAPS: Children’s Auditory Performance Scale από εκπαιδευτικούς. Σύμφωνα με τα ευρήματα, το παιδί που απέτυχε σχεδόν σε όλες τις γλωσσικές και ακαδημαϊκές δοκιμασίες απέτυχε επίσης και στην κλίμακα CHAPS που χρήζει περαιτέρω διερεύνησης. Παρά το αυξανόμενο ερευνητικό ενδιαφέρον υπάρχει μεγάλη ανάγκη πρόσθετης έρευνας με υψηλότερη επιστημονική αυστηρότητα με σκοπό την ανάπτυξη κλινικών κατευθυντήριων γραμμών τόσο της αξιολόγησης και διάγνωσης όσο και της εξατομικευμένης θεραπευτικής παρέμβασης, με έμφαση στην πολυδιεπιστημονική κοινότητα. | en_US |
