dc.descriptionStroke is the rapid development of a brain dysfunction and results from the cessation of blood flow to the brain, either due to blockage of the artery by thrombosis or due to bleeding. There are three types, the ischemic stroke, the hemorrhagic stroke, and the transient ischemic attack. Previous studies have shown that a large percentage of adults are not adequately updated about the risk factors of a Stroke, its predictive signs and the impact that cause to the survivors. The purpose of this study is to investigate what young adults aged 18-25 in Cyprus know about Stroke. For this purpose, a questionnaire was created and promoted through social media. A total of n= 412 young Cypriot adults participated in the survey. The results showed that the young adults’ knowledge of stroke prevention, detection and awareness is lacking. Finally, through this study it is of great necessity to formulate stroke prevention and awareness campaigns in Cyprus.en_US
dc.description.abstractΤο εγκεφαλικό επεισόδιο είναι η ανάπτυξη διαταραχής της εγκεφαλικής λειτουργίας και προκύπτει από την διακοπή της ροής του αίματος στον εγκέφαλο, είτε λόγω απόφραξης της αρτηρίας από θρόμβωση είτε λόγω αιμορραγίας. Υπάρχουν τρεις τύποι Εγκεφαλικού Επεισοδίου, το Ισχαιμικό Εγκεφαλικό Επεισόδιο, το Αιμορραγικό Εγκεφαλικό Επεισόδιο και το Παροδικό Ισχαιμικό Εγκεφαλικό Επεισόδιο. Από μελέτες που έχουν γίνει στο παρελθόν έχει διαπιστωθεί πως μεγάλο ποσοστό των ενηλίκων δεν είναι επαρκώς ενημερωμένο για τους παράγοντες πρόκλησης ενός Εγκεφαλικού Επεισοδίου, τα σημάδια πρόβλεψης του και τις επιπτώσεις που προκύπτουν αυτό. Σκοπός της παρούσας μελέτης είναι η διερεύνηση το τι γνωρίζουν οι νεαροί ενήλικες ηλικίας 18- 25 της Κύπρου για το Εγκεφαλικό Επεισόδιο. Για τον σκοπό αυτό δημιουργήθηκε ερωτηματολόγιο και προωθήθηκε μέσων των μέσων κοινωνικής δικτύωσης. Στην ερεύνα συμμετείχαν συνολικά n=412 Κύπριοι νεαροί ενήλικες. Όπως από τα αποτελέσματα οι νεαροί ενήλικες στην Κύπρο έχουν ελλιπείς γνώσεις όσων αφορά το εγκεφαλικό επεισόδιο τόσο στους παράγοντες πρόκλησης όπως και τα σημάδια άμεσου εντοπισμού. Τέλος, η έρευνα αυτή έδειξε ότι είναι απαραίτητη η άμεση ενημέρωση των νεαρών ενηλίκων για τους παράγοντες πρόληψης αλλά και εντοπισμού του Εγκεφαλικού Επεισοδίου.en_US
