| dc.description | This thesis examines the work and critical reception of two contemporary artists, Cindy Sherman and Yasumasa Morimura. It initially differentiates between the self-portrait as a means of exploration of interiority and the use of one’s self as a way of projecting external situations, stimuli and circumstances. The latter, using one’s self as a model, is the predominant practice of the two artists under consideration. This thesis presents common characteristics, regarding subject-matter and technique, as well as similarities with regard to the two artists’ aims, especially, in terms of artistic appropriation and salient interventions on familiar images. As both artists are interested in topics of identity, gender, politics and society, the thesis delves into how these topics are approached by each one of them. Finally, the thesis examines the way each artist’s work is being received by art critics and the wider public, and it explores the differences between what the artists aimed to achieve and how their work was received and interpreted. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | Αυτή η διατριβή εξετάζει την δουλειά δυο σύγχρονων καλλιτεχνών, της Cindy Sherman και του Yasumasa Morimura. Αρχικά γίνεται μια προσπάθεια διαφοροποίησης της αυτοπροσωπογραφίας ως είδος προβολής του φυσικού ή ψυχολογικού εαυτού, από την χρήση του εαυτού ως μέσο προβολής εξωτερικών ερεθισμάτων και καταστάσεων, όπως συμβαίνει στην περίπτωση αυτών των καλλιτεχνών. Μέσα από την ανάλυση παρουσιάζονται τα κοινά χαρακτηριστικά και οι τεχνικές στο έργο των καλλιτεχνών, το οποίο χαρακτηρίζεται από ιδιοποιήσεις και μεταποιήσεις έργων άλλων καλλιτεχνών. Επιπλέον, γίνεται αναφορά στη θεματολογία των έργων τους καθώς και στο τι επιδιώκει ο καθένας τους μέσα από την δουλειά του όπως αυτό δηλώθηκε από τους ίδιους ή εισηγήθηκε από τρίτους. Δεδομένου ότι και οι δυο καλλιτέχνες ασχολούνται με θέματα ταυτότητας, φύλου, κοινωνίας και πολιτικής, η εργασία αυτή παρουσιάζει τις διαφορετικές οπτικές από τις οποίες ο κάθε καλλιτέχνης προσεγγίζει το ίδιο πεδίο. Την εργασία αυτή επίσης ενδιαφέρει η κριτική πρόσληψη της δουλειάς τους, είτε αυτή είναι (ή ήταν) θετική είτε αρνητική. Τέλος, η εργασία εστιάζει στη σχέση του θεατή με το έργο και στην αλληλεπίδραση του κοινού με τον καλλιτέχνη-μοντέλο. | en_US |
