|Title:||Energy from wastes: a possible alternative energy source for Cyprus' municipalities?||Authors:||Eleftheriou, Polyvios||Keywords:||Renewable energy sources
|Issue Date:||2002||Publisher:||Pergamon||Source:||Energy Conversion and Management, 2002, Volume 43, Issue 15, Pages 1969-1975||Abstract:||The net calorific values and weight composition of solid wastes from all the cities of the island of Cyprus were measured. Representative samples were collected and analyzed for heat generation for a complete year. The values appear to vary from city to city, depending on the season and the living habits of the inhabitants. The total energy that could be produced from the waste amounts to approximately 8.5% of the energy produced by combustion of crude oil and subsequent electricity production to satisfy the needs of the whole island nation.||URI:||http://ktisis.cut.ac.cy/handle/10488/7425||ISSN:||01968904||DOI:||10.1016/S0196-8904(01)00143-1||Rights:||© 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd|
