Abstract: This project is dealing with the condition monitoring systems for a medium-speed Internal Combustion Engine (I.C.). The philosophy behind the arrangement for the maintenance is explained and the prospects of obtaining the greatest possible reliability in service and the best possible service economy are given together with the means which can be used to attain this objective. Specifically it includes: 1. A survey on the various methods employed for monitoring the operating condition of Internal Combustion Engines. 2. A description of the various systems, components and fittings of a modern, fully automated, engine monitoring system. 3. The design of a condition and performance monitoring system for a medium speed I.C. engine. 4. The procedure for optimizing the performance of the engine using the designed engine performance monitoring system
